Information on HRM Schools

How old must a child be to register and attend a Halifax Regional School Board Grade Primary class?
A child must be five years of age on or before December 31 in order to be eligible to attend public school during that school year.

Governor in Council Education Act Regulations Section (3) - Limiting Age for Public Schools

How do I approach the school when I have concerns?  What do I do if I still have concerns?
The HRSB Parent Concern Protocol outlines steps to follow in reporting and resolving parent concerns.  A parent who has a concern should make contact with the school staff member who is directly involved in the issue.  A mutually agreed upon time should be arranged to discuss the concern.  If, after this meeting, the concern has not been resolved, the parent can contact the principal.  The principal will work with the parties involved to resolve the issue.  If this does not bring about a resolution, the parent can contact the School Administration Supervisor who will investigate the concern.  The Parent Concern Protocol also provides a reporting form on which a parent can present a formal written complaint when the preceding steps in the protocol have failed to resolve the parent’s concern.  This written complaint is sent to the School Administration Department for further investigation and action.
